The History of the Shabbatini

One sweltering Shabbat, Rabbi Ariel Aber, feeling the stress of teaching yet another Hebrew class, reached for some cold motivation in the form of Russian vodka. As his head was bowed in a moment of spiritual reflection, Aviva breezed by, unknowingly tipping a bottle of grape juice into the Rabbi's cup.

As the Rabbi brought the cup to his mouth he tasted something miraculous...the two liquids had mixed to a heavenly perfection! It was just then that a voice commanded, "Seltzer!"

Thinking it was God himself suggesting the final ingredient to the libation, the Rabbi asked, "God, is that you?" To which God answered, "You know it!" (Just kidding.)

It was actually Sari needing seltzer to remove an errant grape juice stain from her skirt. The Rabbi knew then that seltzer was just what his drink needed. Aviva, being cautious of the perils of alcohol consumption on an empty stomach, suggested a final touch with fruit as the cocktail's garnish.

With that, the "Shabbatini" was born and Shabbat was never the same!
